Virginia native Mary Zook briefly studied Adventure Education at Messiah College before transferring to the Adventure Sports Institute at Garrett College to join their Adventure Sports Management program.  There, she earned certifications as a Wilderness First Responder, Maryland Top Rope Site Manager, Mountain Bike Instructor, and Leave No Trace Master Educator.  She has worked at three youth camps, facilitating adventure activities and sleeping many consecutive nights in a canvas platform tent.  Mary enjoys trail running, climbing, backpacking, and all that sweaty stuff, but her truly favorite outdoor activity is hammocking.  When she’s not outside, Mary can be found writing or listening to podcasts at her favorite coffee shop.   Mary has written 4 articles for Blue Ridge Outdoors.  Our favorite is “How I got Schooled” ( where she wrote an awesome article about our ASI program.  She is currently writing an article for the Association of Experiential Education (AEE).

“How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who tell everyone, ‘Your God reigns!’”
